High School Music Competition is the Dutch band/act competition for young musicians in the age of 12 to 19. High School Music Competition is known for its grand prices and qualitative good winners. Furthermore High School Music Competition builds a bridge between pop music and poetry.
Young musicians can participate simply by sending a demo of their (at least 3) songs a long with a band photo and a biography. The bands in this stage of the competition are categorized: loud music, pop/rock and hip hop. A professional jury reviews the songs and publicity material. After which they decide who will play in the semi finals. In every category 6 bands or acts will play against each other to win a place in the finals.
In preparation of the finals the six bands/acts get a workshop day. In which they will work on a poem, making it in to a song. During the day the finalists will be coached by a well-known Dutch artist. Besides that they will have their picture taking and get tips for their biography and stage plan.
